Green issues are important for everyone these days. Choosing a holiday cottage in your own country is a hugely positive step. At Lea Hill we aim to minimise any negative environmental impact make it easier for you to have a greener holiday. Once you arrive here, you can engage in really local activities. (You will find plenty of information in our on site 'green' file which lists dozens of places to visit within ten miles). For example, book a traditional arts and craft course at The Old Kennels, or take scenic train journeys through glorious Devon countryside, buy local food, drink our spring water, recycle, even use eco products to do your laundry!

We participate in the Green Tourism Business scheme, silver award.

Local food and produce

There are many local producers and farm shops such as Royal Oak Farm. In Membury itself we have a trout farm selling delicious fresh fish—so no food miles at all! Our local butcher, Complete Meats, stocks a range of delicious pies and pasties as well as award winning sausages. Their meat is produced locally and the different farms supplying the shop are chalked up each week. Of course, Axminster is also home to a weekly country market and to the River Cottage shop, specialising in local fare. The Victoria Catering Company can deliver home cooked meals using fresh, local ingredients—often organic. Pre-order and make your first evening here that bit more special!
