Greener Holidays

Greener holidays at Lea Hill Country Cottages

Well equipped self catering accommodation in Devon. Stunning setting. Dogs welcome.

By taking a holiday in your own country the carbon footprint of your trip is typically several times smaller than a flight to a European holiday destination. What's more, for each let we will carbon offset an average car journey to and from your cottage by supporting an enviromental charity. ( For 2019 Ripple Africa improving cooking stoves in Africa - reducing pollution and ill health.) We are committed to finding greener ways to operate.

Green issues are important for everyone these days. Choosing a holiday cottage in your own country is a hugely positive step. At Lea Hill we aim to minimise any negative environmental impact and make it easier for you to have a greener holiday. Once you arrive here, you can engage in really local activities. (You will find plenty of information in our on site 'green' file which lists dozens of places to visit within ten miles). For example, book a traditional arts and craft course at The Old Kennels, or take scenic train journeys through glorious Devon countryside, buy local food, drink our spring water, recycle, even use eco products to do your laundry! Lea Hill was awarded a Green Tourism Business silver award in 2013.

Local food and produce

There are many local producers and farm shops such as Millers Farm Shop. Our local butcher, Complete Meats, stocks a range of delicious pies and pasties as well as award winning sausages. Their meat is produced locally and the different farms supplying the shop are chalked up each week. Of course, Axminster is also home to a weekly country market and to the River Cottage shop, specialising in local fare.
